Welcome to PCDecisions 2008-2009
Thank you for ordering PCDecisions, the
modern electronic version of the "Decisions on the Rules of Golf -
2008-2009".
This program is written in HTML (the
language of the internet), thus font adjustments can be made from the
top menu bar. For instance, if you are using Internet Explorer you can
increase (or decrease) the font size by going to View then Text Size,
and increasing or decreasing to suit your requirements. If you are using Firefox
colors and font styles can also be changed to suit your needs. Remember any changes you make
will also affect your browser for all other normal internet use.
Please, before you begin, read the following
instructions which will save you time in the installation procedure.
Desktop/Laptop Windows Version
If you have the 2004-2005 version of
the software, you will want to completely uninstall the program so that you will not
be confused by duplicate menu items and shortcuts which would otherwise
result. An uninstaller came with the 2004-2005 program; running it should eradicate
those shortcuts. Otherwise, just remove any desktop shortcuts for PCDecisions,
as the new installer will place one there for you to use: right-click
on the icon and scroll to "Delete", then left-click to send
it to the Recycle Bin.
If you have a Beta version of the Desktop/Laptop
program for 2008-2009, or the 2006-2007 version,
you will need to run the program, navigate
to the Search page and enter QUIT (all uppercase), followed by
hitting the ENTER key or the "Search" button. This will shut
down the server. This is only for the people who have an early
Beta version of the new program.
If you are installing the Desktop/Laptop
version of PCDecisions 2008-2009, the procedure is quite simple. The file for
the installation which you received either as a download or on a CD
is: pcdinst.exe.
Simply, double-click the file: pcdinst.exe
and click: I agree - the program will then load. You MUST wait
up to a minute once you have installed the program for the HTTP server
to start (a message HTTP Server Running will appear). Now the program
can be accessed by double-clicking on the golf-ball icon on your desktop.
Once the splash screen appears, the main
screen will be displayed. The 34 Rules of Golf, Index and other Items
will be displayed on that page. Moving the cursor to a link (underlined
text) and clicking on the sentence will bring up the sections of the
Rule and further clicking will bring up the various Decisions under
that Rule.
When a Decision is reached, you will notice
that the lines are no longer underlined which is the signal that there
is nothing further to show after the Decision. However, a few Decisions
do have underlining which serves to indicate there is an illustration
with that Decision, and you may click to see it. Otherwise, you must
then go back clicking on Back or the left arrow up in the menu bar.
People with a newer mouse such as Logitech,
might wish to program the right button to Back so going back and forth
through the program is speedy. However, you will probably want to change
it back for use outside the program.
In the upper right corner is the search
function, which works as follows: You think or would like to know
if there is a Decision about stacked turf, but where to find it? Typing
in “stacked” (no quotes) or “stacked turf” will bring up 33-8/39
for you to examine. Avoid too general a term such as “ball” which
the memory cannot handle.
PocketPC & WindowsCE Versions for
PDAs
Step 1:
If you have a previous version of PCDecisions
you MUST do the following for the new program to install. (If you do not
have a previous version of the program, you can skip to Step 2 below.)
First, open the Rules program on your
PDA, go to the bottom of the screen and touch Tools, then Options,
then Delete files and then soft reset your device. Next, connect your PDA
to your computer and under ActiveSync on your computer, touch on Explore
in the upper menu then click on My Pocket PC then Windows then Startup
and delete the Rules of Golf Server shortcut. Do another soft reset
and your installation should proceed correctly by clicking on the ppcinstall
Icon.
Next do a soft reset on your PDA. It
will come up without the server running, so that the install procedure
can overwrite the previous version.
Step 2:
New users start here by connecting your PDA to the computer and clicking on the ppcinstall Icon.Now you may install the new program.
If you get asked about a New Partnership, either click on Guest or Cancel
which will list you as a guest.
With the connection still on between
your PDA and the computer, click on the ppcinstall Icon which is the
installation program for PCDecisions - 2008-2009.
Clicking on this file will bring up the
Ewe installer. Click on Express Installation. When the installation
is complete do another soft reset on your PDA.
Disconnect your PDA from the computer
and WAIT for about a minute until you see a message flash on your handheld
announcing that the HTTP Server is now running. This is the signal that
you may start the program. Click on the Golf Ball Icon with the Red
Flag to run the program which is found under Programs. The operating
instructions are the same as the Desktop version above.
